DeWayne Spaw:

That's right! High energy is the only way to describe it. Country music entertainer, DeWayne Spaw has one of the highest energy country music shows most audiences will see for a long time to come. And hey, isn't that what audiences want; to be entertained?
About seven years ago, DeWayne started performing at rodeos in Tennessee and Kentucky. His idea went over so well with those audiences, that he decided to take the show on the road and go national on the fair and pro rodeo circuit. Traveling from Nebraska to as far East as New York, he had over ninety performances in twelve states last year, performing concerts thirty minutes prior to professional rodeos, demo derbys, tractor pulls and full stage concerts at fairs and festivals all over the country. "My favorite part of the show," says DeWayne, "is being able to go into the crowd, shake their hands, and sing directly to them. It really gets the audience involved and makes the performance more personal. Wireless mics and monitors make that possible and give me the freedom to go anywhere I want during the performance, which is most often in the crowd."
Spaw is a seasoned performer in the country music and entertainment business. He has lived in Nashville, Tennessee for the past twelve years and has released seven albums during that time. He has also filmed three music videos, including Preservation Of The Wild Life that aired on CMT and TNN a few years back, and has shared performances with a number of country headliners including Chris Cagle, Chad Brock, Terri Clark, Tracy Lawrence and Diamond Rio.
In addition to his performances, DeWayne has created and founded a drug prevention program, Cowboy Promise, based on the song No Place To Turn Around from his album of the same title. He talks directly to the kids in the audience and asks them to "Make a Cowboy Promise, Don't Use Drugs." Most recently, he has taken a version of his Cowboy Promise program into a number of schools all over the United States.
DeWayne Spaw has the energy and the talent to entertain any audience!

Whiskey Barrel Country

A little over a month ago I approached Shannon with the idea of doing a show together on Blog Talk Radio and much to my surprise she was on board with the idea. We both had fairly successful shows on Blog Talk Radio so we were both in a comfort zone talking to the masses. The only problem we faced was, what the hell is this new show going to be about? Shannon's other show is about crime and my other show, baseball. We were talking about night and day here. lol. So we thought on it for a few days. When all the smoked cleared from the massive amounts of thinking going on Shannon had a perfect idea. An idea that we were both passionate about. Music. Not just any music, country music. And not just any country music either. Both growing tired of the mainstream paint by numbers pop country music, we decided to go out and find up and coming artist. (credit Skitz O'Fuel for the paint by numbers music remark. lol)

Now, the idea was in place. All we needed now was a name for the show and maybe a guest or two. Both proved to not be as hard as we anticipated. "How about Whiskey Barrel" came out of Shannon's mouth and another name was never discussed. First half of the equation was taken care of. Now for step two. Find a guest.

Guessing it would be hard as hell to find a guest for a show that no one but Shannon and I knew about is sure to be a daunting task, right? Well if I said it was easy to get our first guest I would be lying, but it was not as difficult as I thought it would be. We were told in a variety of different ways no. Mostly because no one knew who the hell we were. But perseverance paid off and we landed our first guest. A guest that is sure to be a Whiskey Barrel Country favorite from here to the end. This guest is someone that I only imagined we would be able to get on the show after we were a big success but lady luck reached down and kissed us right on our ass and we now had Skitz O'Fuel on our show.

On October 28th Whiskey Barrel Country hit the Blog Talk Radio and MySpace airways with Skitz as the special guest. Nervous is not the correct word for how we felt. Partly because it was the first show and we wanted it to go off as smooth as possible, but also because Skitz's bio made mention of his desire to go out of his way to anger club managers and interviewers alike. Us being the interviewers knew there was a big chance this highly intelligent man was going to eat us for lunch just for is own pleasure. But that is not the way it played out. His thoughts and feelings were shared by both Shannon and myself too so all was good. lol.

Skitz's desire to anger his interviewers was not our only concern. There was a second one. The name of the show is Whiskey Barrel Country, and as great and awesome as Skitz's songs are, they are not country. Or are they. We had to sit down and define the term country. Is it a certain sound? The lyrics? The mood it sets? The story it tells? What is it exactly that defines a song or an artist as country? I guess it depends on the person. For me, and I say for me because I will not speak for Shannon, it is how I relate to the music. And I relate well with the music Skitz puts out. So in my book, Skitz is country.

So now you know how Whiskey Barrel Country came to be. Was it as exciting of a story as you were hoping for? If not, I apologize but it is what it is.

Now, what can you expect from the WB Country Blog? A weekly and sometimes daily update on future and past guest. And we will even talk about new artist that are yet to be scheduled on Whiskey Barrel Country. We will even through in some mainstream country music news from time to time. So be sure and check in regularly to see what is going in the Whiskey Barrel world and in the country music world as well.

Thanks,
Texas Bulldog
